A History of Familiars

A History of...

Familiars are intriguing and fantastic creatures that come in all shapes and sizes, in all colors and patterns that can become an important figure in the life of a human and Azrein through bonding. Familiar can bond with a human and/or human that will be their counterparts for the rest of their lives or until the bond has been severed through death of either counterpart. This can leave the remaining counterpart in grief until it can be overcome or until another Familiar can bond with the counterpart.

When bonded, these creatures are capable of communicating solely with their bonded companion through a deep connection of the mind known as Mind Speech. It is through here that no other can intrude on the mental link between counterparts to know what it is they share together. This connection can be used to call each other when in danger or when in need of someone to listen to their sorrows or their rants. The deeper the bond, the strong the Mind Speech can become which can be very useful when in great distance. However it takes practice as well as time for it to develop to that extent. Most times, a Familiar is capable of speaking out loud to communicate to the potential companion, especially to humans. After all humans cannot speak the speech of mammals.

The story of when the first Familiar occurred happened many centuries ago. It all happened at the highest point in the mountains where a light from the heavens that looked like a shooting star of a comet, that hit the rocky terrain yet no sound came from it. The exact detail of what occurred is unknown, but what is known is that the creatures that lived up there evolved into something much more. It was then that the creatures spread about through the land, changing into the descendents of the current time. Yet it was through this humble beginning that their descendents became something much more than mere animals living within the world alongside the humans and Azrein. They on their own are mediums in which they can befriend you rather than becoming the normal order of the world of hunter and the hunted.

These very creatures evolved into the ones we know as Bayrel, Fafnir, Caeltae, Naiti, Glacin, Scat and Ladon. Each of these creatures has their own personalities and rarity in their common bonding to humans and Azrein living within their own regions that both species of Azrein and humans can be found.

Here are clarifications of the terms mentioned. More will be added as necessary.

Familiars: Creature’s that are not human or Azrein of any form and size with any distinct colorization and markings that makes them wholly unique from each other.

Mind Speech: The ability in which the bonded pair between a Familiar/Human and Familiar/Azrein may communicate with each other through their minds. This can often times be used to seek out their assistance or consolation. The stronger the bond, the more clearly emotions are shared between the couple, and the greater the distance the bonded may hear and feel each other.

Mind Block: The ability to keep your bonded Familiar or companion from reading your thoughts and emotions. It’s possible for both sides to block each other but extensive practice is necessary.

Bonded: This is the term used to know the deep connection between Familiars and their companions. It signifies something meaningful and honorable for both. It is also used to refer to the Azrein in a Bond.

Counterpart: This is the term used by a human and/or Azrein that refers to their Bonded familiars.
